you acquire skills that change your rotation throughout the entire leveling process. The thing to remember, based on your assessment of a lvl 6 being boring. As Cityguy said AoE wise they're just not as potent as the mage jobs but they aren't to terrible in that you won't AoE at all when the party needs it. Melee do tend to be really powerful single target DPS, and I believe I recall changes that 3.0 brought minor increases to the AoE potency of the 3 melee classes. If I were to compare it to something in WoW it would be something like Balance Druid while still having its own unique feel.Īs far as Melee go I don't think you can really go wrong with Lancer, Pugilist or Rogue. That isn't to say it doesn't do amazing DPS when done right. That said, for many, the new Black Mage (Thaumaturge Job) rotation is not very practical due to the amount of movement required on most end game boss fights so people prefer to stay away from the job in general. Granted I only got the class level to 6.For the most part this changes in the late 40s once you have access to most of the Class/Jobs perks and later changing completely at 60.
I started with the Thaumaturge figuring I'd try the traditional mage class, well it simply felt boring (which I should have expected because I tend to stray from mage archetypes in MMOs).
